The Republic of Albania is a country in Southeast Europe, bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, the Republic of Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south and southeast. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the west and on the Ionian Sea to the southwest. It is less than 72 km (45 mi) from Italy, across the Strait of Otranto which connects the Adriatic Sea to the Ionian Sea. The official language of the country is Albanian. However, most Albanians are fluent in Italian and English.
Albania has been chosen as the venue for the inaugural version of Balkancom because, after a period of harsh conditions, it has emerged as an amazingly energetic, productive, and safe country that also shares the natural beauty that all Balkan States enjoy.
Tirana is the capital and largest city of Albania, as well as the heart of Albania's cultural, economic and governmental activity. Geographically, it is located on the western center of the country surrounded by hills with the Dajti Mountain on the east and a slight valley opening on the north-west overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the distance. Being Albania's primate city, Tirana is a hometown of many of the major local universities, cultural institutions and commercial companies. For leisure and sightseeing activities in the city, please check here.
The Protik ICT Resource Center was established by the combined efforts and goals of the Government of Albania, USAID, Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF), Microsoft, Cisco, and Albtelecom. Established as a local non for profit organization on October the 10th, 2012, Protik's mission is to catalyze the development of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in Albania. The accomplishment of its mission was founded and will continue to be inspired on the values of Integrity, Excellence, Transparency, Collaboration and Cooperation. Protik aims to become the Albanian ICT hub: a connection point for those seeking the latest and most innovative ideas, products, and services.
